I love using the VOX output to bring about variation in how each voice is treated, different sequencer speeds, etc, however sometimes I don't feel like I have very fine control over all that. Is there a tutorial in making good (and controllable) use of the VOX values?
I wanted to search the Madrona Labs forums for the word "vox" and there doesn't appear to be any search utility. It would be helpful to have that so beginners (ie me) don't have to ask simple questions which may have already been answered.
It's easy to set up vox in a predictable way when you want certain intervals or differences. For example when the input has a default that gives you a useful value. like the oscillator pitch default of one-per-octave. Attaching vox to this will shift each voice after the first up by an additional octave. I guess this is covered well in the manual.
Where things get tricky, as you point out, is dialing in small variations that you want. Here I think Aalto could use some UI additions, such as text entry or other fine controls for the attenuverters. I do plan to add those.
The attenuverters do have a fine-adjust mode like the other controls. Holding shift while dragging can help with fine adjustments.
Maybe a precision attenuator on the vox output itself could help too? I'm open to ideas.
I forgot to add that search is on the Resources / Support page.

An arbitrary mapping would be really awesome here, similar idea to scale settings.
So with this scheme, a setting of vox 0 = 0, vox 1 = 1, vox 2 = 2, vox 3 = 3 would replicate the current scheme, but each voice's vox could be individually set/scaled to a different output value, like vox 0 = 0, vox 1 = 0.5, vox 2 = 3, vox 4 = -1
It would be useful to have this feature. I design things "from the knobs in" and so the difficulty here right away is, how would the UI look and work?
Now if there were an arbitrary function generator that you could run the vox output through, as well as other things, that would be one solution.
You had me at arbitrary function generator.
That said, a UI option for this feature could be a "Vox Scale" dropdown, alongside the pre-existing Key/Scale selection. I've never actually investigated whether it is possible to define arbitrary key scales though . . .
That said, a pre-defined selection of VOX scales might do the trick as well. The combination of a collection of useful vox scales and the cv input attenuators would open up a lot of possibilities.
