Hello,
I apologize if this has been covered, but I am noticing that Aalto's step sequencer will lose sync with Ableton if I change the parameters of the sequencer during playback. The tempo stays the same (no drift), but when I change parameters, the sequencer jumps to another step and the steps are no longer in time with the host sequencer. The same thing happens if I open the Aalto window during playback. Things will snap back into sync if I stop and start playback in Ableton, but this is obviously not ideal. Any ideas?
Aalto 1.7
Ableton Live 9.6.2
OS X 10.11.6
(I've noticed the same behavior in earlier versions of Aalto, Ableton, and OS X as well)
Thank you!
Seth
Are you possibly changing the offset parameter or steps parameter of the sequencer? They are designed to do this.
If not, please email me or post below a patch that reproduces the issue, I'll take a look.
Hi Randy,
It seems to happen with any patch. I understand that the offset and step parameters will necessarily change the behavior of the sequencer. But if I change the sequencer values during playback (while host-synced), for example, the sequencer often restarts at the moment I click on a new value, which means it loses its sync in relation to the Ableton clock. The same thing seems to happen if I open the Aalto window during playback (by clicking the "plug-in edit" icon). At the moment that I click "plug-in edit," the sequencer seems to restart playback. Are you unable to reproduce? If not, maybe a video snapshot would be helpful?
Thanks!
Seth
Huh. this seems like a big problem that I would know about but it's not familiar. I wonder if possibly Live is sending some automation or a program change to Aalto, that is resetting it? the "open the window" issue kind of makes this unlikely though.
I have completely new host sync code in the next version that is coming out ASAP. It's been a bit long in coming because I'm packing the house up for a move. I can commit to sending out a beta this week so you can try the new version. If it works for you I can make a license code for you to unlock it.
OK, I just uploaded a beta to
http://madronalabs.com/media/aalto/Aalto1.8.0b1.pkg
Please give it a try and if works for you, you can email me for a license text. The website will provide these after I switch everything over to the new license system.
Thanks Randy! Will give it a try soon.
Hmm, I'm afraid the problem is still happening. If the Aalto window is already open and I start playback, then the first time I adjust any of the sequencer values, or the range, or the glide, the sequencer restarts from the first step. Additional adjustments do not reset the sequencer, it's only the first time. Same is true if the Aalto window is closed and I open it - the first time I open the Aalto window, the sequencer resets, but after that, I can open and close without the sequencer resetting (though at that point it's already out of sync). If I stop and start Ableton playback, everything resets and starts again on the 1, but again if I open the Aalto window or adjust a parameter (if the Aalto window is already open), the sequencer restarts again.
Good luck with your move! I'll miss your old place!
I can make this happen! It occurs the first time a parameter is changed after the host sequencer is stopped and restarted. Happens in both Live and Logic.
Weird this didn't get noticed before! I'll see what I can do.
Any progress here?
This is fixed for the release. I'm afraid packing / moving is slowing everything down significantly. Will release ASAP when landed, probably next week.
